Stress and Anxiety

Whether you are struggling with a physical illness that is causing you stress or you are dealing with anxiety or grief that is creating physical symptoms, therapy can help.

Aren't there drugs to combat anxiety?

The short answer is yes, there are anti-anxiety medications that can be very helpful.  However, managing anxiety in a holistic way involves empowering yourself to understand the root of the anxiety and to find techniques that help provide inner strength and balance.  These individualized calming programs become lifelong tools.

A few questions...

  • Do you find yourself obsessing about things you can't change?
  • Do you find yourself short of breath or having heart palpitations when you get anxious?
  • Do you have trouble sleeping because of worry?
  • Are you worried about the future in general?

What about depression and fear around chronic or sudden illnesses that may be life-limiting?

For patients who have been advised that they are confronting a difficult diagnosis - perhaps cancer or a chronic disease - the goal of therapy is two-fold: to help you find ways to manage your stress so the times you do feel well you can be more engaged, and to provide relaxation techniques to assist in reducing symptoms.

Every person should have the opportunity to make the most of his or her life.  You may want to look forward or backwards to find your inner peace.

For some patients, the concern is not about their health, but about their caregivers.  Caregiver fatigue is a serious issue and anticipatory grief includes worrying about changes that may be coming.

My years' of hospice experience have given me a broad understanding in finding ways to embrace life and its challenges.
