Adults caring for an elderly or infirm loved one often find themselves wishing for a safe place to process and feel supported on their journey. Beginning on July 23, 2018, such a group will be held on the 2nd Mondays of the month at 6 pm and the 4th Mondays of the month at 4 pm at The Village at Belmar, 7825 W. Alameda Avenue, Lakewood. No charge, but an RSVP is needed by noon that day: 303-351-5455. The group will be facilitated by myself and Susan Splitt, LPC and will offer a 1 1/2 hour space to laugh, cry, get support, learn coping strategies, and feel in community. Rejection stings. Badly.
What's the worst that can happen if they tell me "no"? Today, on Friday the 13th, I want to offer support to those who are afraid of rejection. So often we don't venture beyond our comfort zone, thinking, "No one will want to do that with me," or "It will just be a failure." I recently was reminded that even when the original plan gets convoluted because someone turns you down, you might still find joy in the activity or even meet someone with whom you have a connection. Just go for it.
Serendipity is a word that means finding a delightful surprise by chance. These moments come when we are out in the world. Take a risk today. Be your authentic self and find something you'd like to try. The only person saying "no" to you is you.
